Tokyo Long White Bunching Onion is a Japanese heirloom. A sweet, mild bunching variety forms long, uniform, single stem stalks, 12-15″ tall. Use the stems and tops of this non-bulbing onion for salads and as a garnish or topping. This longtime favorite does well in most areas and can be planted for early summer and fall harvests. These are super easy to grow and very satisfyingly quick to germinate. and are great for small gardens and containers. The leaves can be cut for use during the growing stage, making sure to leave at least 1/3 of the center leaves on the plant. :Make about a one-inch depression, plant 8-10 seeds per hole, spacing the holes about 6 inches apart. Cover with about 1/4 inch of soil. Bunching onions prefer to be planted in groupings. Does well in most any soil type. Direct sow in early spring and again in late fall. In frost-free areas, sow in fall.Planting Chamomile with onions is said to improve their flavor. Onions also do well with carrots, leeks, beets, kohlrabi, brassicas, dill, lettuce and tomatoes. When planted with strawberries, the onions helps the berries fight disease.
